Weekend Wrap - Round 4, 2020-21

Another great weekend of cricket across the club with the weather only spoiling one game in the end.

On the senior cricket front the boys brought home three wins from four with the 3rds ending up with a draw due to second innings washout, and the 5ths getting some free points courtesy of the bye.

The 1sts and 2nds continued their undefeated starts to the season with both sides chasing down targets with time to spare after a short rain delay.

Chris Deidun (45) and Elijah Slatter (34) led the way with the bats in the ones after Mike Piper (3/40) and Nikhil De Silva (2/30) set things up with the ball. At the Lions Den the boys had some work to do after St Andrews posted a good score of 4/189 but Andy MacCartney (61) and Bill Brown (31) set things up at the top of the order.

The 3rds had a tough day chasing leather as Mount Evelyn raced away with a 9 an over run rate with Jamie McLauchlan snaring 3/58 in amongst the run fest. Neil Pitt (82*) and Matt Posetti continued the good day for the bats until the game was abandoned due to rain.

The 4s got their first win of the season as the batting clicked with Dwayne Smith (55*) and Marcus O'Dwyer (50*) knocking up half centuries after Marcus snagged two with the ball (2/15) with son Ben O'Dwyer (1/10) also bowling well.

In the juniors, we managed to bank two wins on Friday night with our under 12-8 team breaking through for their first win will all players in the first year of under 12s. Caitlin Miller and Gabby Hooper had days out both scoring 27* while Stephen Best and Zahra Darmody each grabbed a wicket.

Our Friday 14s again ran out comprehensive winners with 5 scores of 16 or more. Ashton Smith was dominant early hitting a fine 37* again some good bowling before Luke again took the game on with hard hitting 42*. Josh Steen picked up 2/11 with the wickets shared around again.

On Saturday, our 14s had another top of the table clash with Wantirna South just getting the better of us in a tight tussle. Tom Elford (3/6) and Elijah Coles (2/14) grabbed the wickets at either end of the innings as the Devils posted a solid score. With the bat, we were in it the whole way but seemed just an over behind for much of the innings. Tyson Darmody (20*) and Hayley McLaughlin (15*) continued their good form while Josh Steen (14*) finished off a good all-round day for him.

The under 16s also ended up falling short against Wantirna South with Noah Mulligan (19*) and Ben O'Dwyer (17*) having good days with the bat while James Scott (3/7) and Ben Callegaro (2/8) helped keep the score in check after Wantirna South had gotten off to an excellent start.

Lots of great efforts across the board with 5 wins out of 8 (plus a draw and a bye). Most importantly it was great to have our members young and old out there enjoying the game again this weekend. Bring on Round 5!
